Alabama RC&D Staff Gather for Professional Development Training

On September 11-12, Mid-South RC&D served as host for Alabama RC&D staff members to gather for professional development training sessions organized by the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils (AARCDC). The two-day event brought together executive directors, program managers, and communications specialists from across the state to strengthen their skills and share best practices.

Melissa LeRoy, President of OnFire Nonprofit Training, spoke to executive directors and programs managers focusing on the best practices for nonprofits. Together they tackled new ideas and brainstormed ways to improve RC&D while being mindful of legislative changes and the development of AI.

Meanwhile, communications specialists participated in their own breakout sessions designed to enhance outreach initiatives by hearing from two different speakers. Drayton Cosby with the Cosby Company emphasized the importance of legislative outreach, reviewing initiatives designed to promote the impact of RC&D’s grant program with Alabama State Legislators. Additionally, Bill Cahilin from Auburn University provided insight into website SEO and digital algorithms, providing valuable insight into how Communications Specialists can improve the reach of important content.

Ideas flow and brainstorming reach its peak when Alabama’s RC&D councils come together. While each Council is unique, staff members do a fantastic job at learning from each other and discovering new ways to improve. Now, RC&D can move forward with more clarity on nonprofit best practices and website rankings and design.
