Montgomery County project Celebrations
Project celebrations in Montgomery County began at the Montgomery Humane Society where Alabama State Representatives Phillip Ensler and Kenyatte Hassell and the Mid-South RC&D Council learned how “man’s best friend’ was cared for with the “Keeping At-Risk Families Together” project. This project helped to provide pet healthcare for 16 low-income families, allowing them to avoid having to surrender their pets to the shelter.
That afternoon, Mid-South RC&D traveled to the Riverwalk Stadium to celebrate some more of the county’s great projects with Senator Will Barfoot and Representative Chris Sells. At this celebration, over $39,000 in grant funds were awarded across four different organizations: Baptist Health, Medical Outreach Ministries, Montgomery County Commission, and Montgomery Education Foundation. This was only a piece of the total $70,906 amount organizations in Montgomery County received in grant funds from the Mid-South RC&D Council for FY2025.

Baptist Health purchased 10 AED units for distribution to different popular community hubs in the county like the Riverwalk Stadium. At the event, nurses from Baptist Health demonstrated how the AEDs can be used by anyone to potentially save a life since the machine is designed with simple step-by-step instructions and safeguards. Check out a video of the demonstration on the Mid-South RC&D Facebook page!
Medical Outreach Ministries (M.O.M) is an organization dedicated to providing quality medical care to uninsured individuals, many of whom often fall below the poverty line. M.O.M purchased a new electrocardiograph machine with spirometry and treatment supplies for their practice. The addition of spirometry adds an additional method to assist MOM’s doctors in the diagnosis of asthma, chronic pulmonary disease (COPD), and emphysema.

Montgomery County Commission received two grants this year. One project was used to pour new asphalt for the Enzor Park pickleball court, which will replace the old tennis court. The second project helped the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office with their annual “Fall in love with Fishing” event, designed to encourage outdoor activities for people of all ages. This event also provides an opportunity for children to have positive exposure to police officers.
The Montgomery Education Foundation was awarded to help support their MGM Reads program, which seeks to provide every student with a book package for five weeks during the summer. This program results in the students accumulating 10 books for their home library and helps provide continued reading support during the summer, a time when most children lose gains from the previous year.

With the support of the Alabama State Legislature, Mid-South RC&D works with various different organizations to improve the quality of life and economic well-being in Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery Counties. By working together, positive impact is brought to Alabama’s communities, making the state a better place to live, work, and play. Stay updated as we continue to celebrate more projects in our region!
