Mid-South RC&D reconnects with County Commission to promote the Fy26 Grant Cycle

In March, the Mid-South RC&D Council traveled to attend the County Commission meetings in Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, and Montgomery Counties. Each year, Executive Director Pam Hughes leads this outreach effort to prepare for the reopening of the RC&D Grant Cycle and remind the County’s Commissioners about our shared goal of strengthening communities through education, community improvement, and economic development.

“Mid-South RC&D always wants to ensure the grant cycle is used to fund education and community projects and programs that improve the quality of life and economic well-being throughout our service area. That’s why working with the local government is so important. As elected officials representing county-wide interests, commissioners connect us with the nonprofit agencies and subunits of government who need support funding projects that benefit their community. We’re thankful for our partnership with local commission."

Attending the County Commission meetings strengthens the connections Mid-South RC&D has with the local government. At each meeting, Pam thanked the commission for their support, discussed the Mid-South RC&D Grant Cycle’s eligibility requirements, and explained how this opportunity has been used in the past. She also provided county-specific examples of past projects Mid-South RC&D has supported.

Mid-South RC&D was met with a warm reception and complimentary remarks during these meetings. Many commissioners echoed our gratitude for this partnership and already had projects in mind.

The FY26 Grant Cycle is a chance for local groups to fill the gaps of unmet needs in their communities. With help from our County Commissioners and other community partners, Mid-South RC&D is looking forward to reaching more nonprofits, units/subunits of government, and schools.
